A glowing Tavellio alabaster table lamp on a marble base on a wooden sideboard in front of a framed print

ALABASTER LAMPS

Lamps with a shade of real alabaster. The stone lets the light through, so the lamp glows instead of shines.

Everything to know about alabaster lamps

What is alabaster?

A fine-grained natural stone that is translucent, so light passes through it. That is why it is used for lamp shades.

Is alabaster a type of marble?

No. Both are natural stones, but alabaster lets light through while marble stays opaque. On our lamps they often meet: an alabaster shade on a marble base. See the marble lamps.

Why does an alabaster lamp glow?

The light inside passes through the stone and lights up its veins, which gives a soft, even glow rather than a bright point.

Why does each alabaster shade look different?

Alabaster is a natural stone, so the veining, clouding and tone differ from block to block. No two shades are the same.

Which bases do the alabaster shades sit on?

Marble, travertine and rubberwood in the Levora Collection, and a metal frame on the Nola. See the Levora Collection.

Can I replace the alabaster shade?

Yes. On the Levora lamps the shade twists off the base, and alabaster shades are also sold separately. See the Modular Collection.

How do I clean alabaster?

Dust it with a soft, dry cloth. Alabaster is sensitive to water and cleaning products, so keep them away from the stone.

Are alabaster lamps rechargeable?

Most are. The Levora lamps charge via USB-C, dim with a touch and switch between 2200K, 2700K and 4000K. A few alabaster designs run on a cord, shown on each product page. See the rechargeable table lamps.

LIGHT YOU CAN HOLD

No cable, so the lamp goes where you go. The alabaster glows in your hands, and the veins in the stone come forward in the light. See the Levora Collection.

NO TWO SHADES ALIKE

The veining runs differently through each block of alabaster, so each shade has its own pattern. The shade twists off the base and can be replaced. See the Modular Collection.
