Everything to know about modular lampshades

Which lampshades fit my lamp?

These shades are made for Tavellio, and they sit on the bases of the Rijks Collection, the Nordic Collection and the Maera Collection. Every shade page names the bases it belongs to, so you can check a pairing before you order.

How do you change a shade?

You twist it off the base by hand. No tools, nothing to unscrew and nothing to rewire. The new shade goes on the same way, and the lamp is finished in the time it takes to unpack it.

Which materials can I choose?

Clear and frosted glass, 3D-printed porcelain and a linen blend. The porcelain is printed rather than cast, which is how it carries relief that would be hard to mould by hand. The material of each shade is on its own product page.

How does the material change the light?

Clear glass throws a brighter, more defined pool and shows the shape of the shade itself. Frosted glass evens it out. Porcelain lets the light run along the relief, so the pattern appears once the lamp is on. Linen spreads it softest of all.

How large is the range?

Shades in three materials and several sizes, and new shapes are added through the year. The system behind them is the modular collection, and combinations we have already put together are in Mix & Match.

Which size do I need?

Diameter and height are listed on every product page, running from roughly 10 to 20 centimetres. You match the shade to the size of the base, so a small base takes a small shade and a larger base carries a larger one.

Can I buy a single shade if one breaks?

Yes, and that is the point of the system. You replace the shade and keep the base you chose, instead of replacing a whole lamp because one part gave up.

How do you clean a lampshade?

It depends on the material. Glass takes a damp cloth. Porcelain is best wiped gently and dried, so nothing settles in the relief. Linen is brushed dry rather than washed, because water leaves a mark on the weave.

A TWIST IS ALL IT TAKES

The shade turns off the base by hand, with no tools and nothing to rewire. Put a different one on and the lamp you already own reads as a new one. That is the idea behind the modular collection.

DIFFERENT SHADES, SAME FIT

Clear and frosted glass, 3D-printed porcelain and a linen blend, all on the same fitting. The material decides whether the light is sharp and defined or spread soft across the room.
