Everything to know about marble lamps

Are the lamps made of real marble?

Yes. The base is cut from natural stone and the shade above it is glass. You notice it in the weight and in how cool the stone stays under your hand, and the marble is named on every product page. If you prefer a warmer, more open stone, look at the travertine lamps.

Which marbles do you use?

Rosso Levanto, Calacatta Viola, Nero Marquina, Verde Alpi, Rosa Aurora, Bianco Statuarietto, Dark Emperador and Ice Green. Each comes out of a different quarry, which is why the colour and the veining are so far apart from one to the next. The darkest of them are gathered in black marble table lamps.

Will my lamp look exactly like the photo?

Close, but never identical. Marble is cut from a block that formed over millions of years, so the veining lands differently on every base. Two lamps of the same stone read as a pair, and no two are the same piece.

How long does a marble lamp last on a charge?

Between 10 and 100 hours on most models, and 15 to 120 hours on the largest batteries, depending on how bright you set them. The batteries run from 5000 to 8000 mAh and charge over USB-C. The runtime of each model is on its own product page.

Are the lamps dimmable?

Yes, with a touch on the lamp itself. There are three light colours, from a very warm 2200K through 2700K to a neutral 4000K, and the brightness runs all the way down to something close to candlelight.

Can a marble lamp be used outside?

These are made for indoors. The marble lamps are rated IP20, so an evening on a covered terrace is fine but rain is not, and stone and frost do not go together either. If you want a lamp that stays outside under cover, take one of the metal lamps, which are rated IP54.

How do you look after marble?

A soft, damp cloth is enough. Keep vinegar, lemon and abrasive pads away from it, because acid etches the polish and dulls the surface. Marble is porous, so wipe up oil or wine rather than letting it sit.

What makes the Rijks Collection different?

It comes apart. The marble base and the shade are separate pieces, so you can change the look of the lamp without buying a new one, and the shades are sold on their own in the lampshades collection. It is also the collection that was recognised with an iF Design Award. See the Rijks Collection.

THE RIJKS COLLECTION IS MODULAR

Bases and shades come apart, so a marble base can carry another shade whenever the room changes. The collection was recognised with an iF Design Award. See the Rijks Collection.
