Everything to know about purple table lamps

What is Calacatta Viola marble?

Calacatta Viola is a white marble with bold veins in violet, plum and burgundy. The name combines Calacatta, a family of white marbles known for strong veining, with viola, the Italian word for violet. See it next to our other marbles under marble lamps.

Is Calacatta Viola the same as Calacatta marble?

It belongs to the same family. Calacatta is the name for a group of white marbles with bold veining, and the best known varieties have grey or gold veins. Calacatta Viola is the variety whose veins turn violet and burgundy, which gives the white stone a warmer, more expressive look.

What is Lilac marble?

Lilac is a pale marble with fine lilac and grey veins running through white stone, so the base reads as a soft violet rather than a bold one. The name describes its colour. Many designs in the Rijks Collection come in Lilac as well as in Calacatta Viola.

What is the difference between Calacatta Viola and Lilac?

Contrast. Both are purple marbles, but Calacatta Viola has broad, dark violet veins that can cover large parts of the base, while Lilac is calmer, with thinner and lighter veins spread over white stone. On the same design, the two differ only in pattern and depth of colour.

Why does every Calacatta Viola base look different?

Because every base is real stone, not a print, and the veins of Calacatta Viola are broad and irregular. One base can be mostly white with a single violet line, the next can carry a wide purple band, so the product photo shows one example and your lamp has its own pattern.

Which purple lamps have a 3D-printed porcelain shade?

The purple lamps in the Maera Collection pair a marble base with a porcelain shade made by 3D printing. The printer builds the shade layer by layer, so it can take raised, sculptural forms, and the pattern appears as light and shadow once the lamp is switched on.

Which purple lamps have an alabaster shade?

Those in the Levora Collection, on a base of Calacatta Viola or Lilac. Alabaster is a translucent natural stone, so the light comes through the shade itself and reveals its own veining, above the veins of the purple marble below.

How do I clean a Calacatta Viola or Lilac base?

For dust, a soft, dry cloth is enough; for more, use a damp cloth with a drop of mild soap or a pH-neutral stone cleaner, then dry. The base is polished marble, which reacts to acid, so blot up wine or juice straight away and avoid vinegar, lemon or acidic cleaners, which leave dull marks.
