Everything to know about red table lamps

What is Rosso Levanto marble?

Rosso Levanto is a deep burgundy marble with white veins and patches running through it. The name refers to Levanto, on the Ligurian coast of Italy. It sits alongside our black, white and green marbles under marble lamps.

Is Red Travertine a marble?

No. Red Travertine is a travertine: a limestone that forms in layers where mineral-rich spring water leaves calcium behind, which gives it bands and natural pores. We partly fill those pores, so you can still see them and the stone keeps its natural look. More under travertine lamps.

What shade of red are these lamps?

The stone lamps come in two reds. Rosso Levanto is a deep burgundy, close to aubergine, with sharp white veins. Red Travertine is a warmer brick red with soft bands and no white veins. Many designs in the Rijks Collection come in both, so the same shape is available in either red.

Why does every red base look different?

Because every base is real stone, not a print. The white veins of Rosso Levanto and the bands and pores of Red Travertine run differently through each piece, so the product photo shows one example and the lamp you receive has its own pattern.

Which red lamps have a 3D-printed porcelain shade?

The red lamps of the Maera Collection. Their shade is 3D-printed in porcelain, which makes sculptural patterns possible, and the porcelain gently softens the light. The pattern shows most clearly when the lamp is on.

Which red lamps have an alabaster shade?

The red lamps of the Levora Collection. Alabaster is a soft natural stone that lets light through, so the shade glows rather than shines. On a base of Rosso Levanto or Red Travertine, both the base and the shade are natural stone, each with its own pattern.

Can I replace the shade on a red lamp?

Yes, on the red stone lamps. Every shade is modular: it twists off the base and another shade twists on, so you can switch between glass, linen, 3D-printed porcelain and alabaster. Loose shades are sold separately under lampshades.

How do I clean a marble or travertine base?

The bases are polished natural stone that reacts to acid, so blot up spills straight away and keep lemon juice, vinegar and acidic cleaners away, as they leave dull marks. For everyday dust a soft dry cloth is enough; for more, use a damp cloth with a drop of mild soap or a pH-neutral stone cleaner, then dry.
