Everything to know about white alabaster candle holders
How white is white alabaster?
Off white rather than paper white, and never one flat tone. It runs from almost clear to warm ivory with a faint cloud through it, which is what separates natural stone from a painted holder that is the same white everywhere.
Does the grain show when it is lit?
That is the moment to look at it. Unlit it reads as a quiet pale object. Lit, the cloud inside the stone appears as a soft drawing, different in every piece, and the thin walls turn almost white while the base stays solid.
Is the light cooler than in the brown stone?
Cleaner rather than cooler. White passes the light evenly, so the glow stays pale and steady. The brown alabaster candle holders deepen it to amber instead, which is a warmer effect in the same room.
Does the pale stone mark more easily?
It shows a mark sooner, so it rewards care. Alabaster is porous, so wine, oil and candle wax sink in rather than sit on top. Wipe a spill at once, keep water off it, and clean with a dry cloth.
Which light goes inside?
An LED tea light of your own, because the holder is the stone on its own. Never a flame: on pale alabaster the soot settles on the inside wall and darkens it where it shows most, and the heat can crack a stone this soft. The full care notes are under alabaster candle holders.
Where does white work best?
Against something darker: a walnut table, a dark stone top, a black metal tray. In a room that is already pale it waits politely until it is lit, and then it becomes the warmest thing there.
Will the white stay white?
Yes, with a battery light. Light itself does not discolour the stone. It is fire that turns pale alabaster yellow, because soot and wax go into the pores and never come back out, which is why we steer so firmly away from it.
Can you build a set around white?
White is the easiest tone to build with, because it holds a group together while the heights do the work. Keep the shapes related, or let one brown piece carry the contrast. Ready made combinations are under alabaster candle holder sets.

THE EASIEST ONE TO PLACE
Pale stone sits quietly against wood, linen and dark surfaces, and asks nothing of the room until it is lit.
